A meeting with likeminded people.

A meeting with likeminded people.

The Abundant Earth Community are hosting a get together with tea and cake at Revival Cafe on Sincil Street Lincoln. 23rd February at 6.00pm Sunday evening. We hope you will all attend and perhaps bring plenty of new ideas to help set us off on the road to a great collaboration, working together to build a potentially sustainable, environmentally friendly community, by the community for the community in the heart of Lincoln City itself. You can also bring any food items to share, as we want the gathering to be as informal and conducive to fun as possible.
We have been busy already and have had several meetings with both land owners and local authorities with regards the feasibility and objectives of the project. Whilst land in a city environment is typically at a premium we at the Abundant Earth Community remain positive that working in helpful ways with planning departments and housing departments as well as the City, District and County Council may yet breed prosperous results. It may well be that we can also help them understand the ever changing landscape of potentials for self build and affordable housing projects, including sustainable building methods, innovative designs  and incorporation of recycled and up-cycled materials, as well as alternative energy sourcing methods. We have been approached by land owners keen to discover what our ideas could mean for their more rural communities, which could be a joint/pilot project with this A.E.C. Workers Cooperative, and our Housing Cooperative. This does not negate our hope to bring alternatives into the City of Lincoln (perhaps as close as 3-4 miles of the City center) but we have to be realistic with what has been so far offered and what has become obtainable.

Some of our current members have been busy over the past few months learning from conferences with regards to affordable housing, cooperative working systems and third sector agencies that may be of benefit to our goals and intentions. Observably community land trusts and local authorities as well as alternative community ventures have set about creating an environment for the changes to come. Hopefully the urgency to build and create new and affordable homes will forge new ideas and strategies that can be of benefit to people, especially people whom like us, value the environment and resources. We all pretty well know that current targets are unworkable with the present regulations or available resources for them. We have to consider new and exciting ways to co-create a better and fairer world. Working together can do this, and it is our hope that we should find peaceful and harmonious ways to achieve these joint aims. Maybe it would be good to first consider just what implications our societal demand for more has wrought upon us. We crave more energy and ever more material things, but have we stopped to consider just what an impact this is having on both our planet and our ability to expect this growth? The A.E.C. are looking at ways in which we could all agree to have less and improve ways of using energy, rather than to simply produce more. To find alternatives to demand for growth and inspire new initiatives that will adjust our abuse of what we already have.

Please come along, bring your friends, and or anyone who wants change and is prepared to consider an alternative to the status quo. Our meeting will follow on from a meeting about setting up a Steiner School here in Lincoln in the very near future. (Article in Echo) This again is an alternative to the mainstream education offered, so it would appear to the trained eye, that many groups are searching for alternatives and in so many fields of life.

Get involved, and BE THE CHANGE THAT YOU WISH TO SEE IN YOUR WORLD...!

Sunday 23rd February, 6.00pm
@ Revival Community Cafe, 18-20 Sincil St. Lincoln.
